The Visual Scheduling Board will help you see and understand your schedule. Here are a few graphics to help you understand how the VSB provides visibility to your shop floor schedule.

Visual Scheduling Job Bars

Job Bars (Run Bars) show where and when a job runs. The Clear Molded Frizbee runs on Press 10. It starts early afternoon on Monday and ends before noon on Thursday.

Visual Scheduling Detail

Job Bar Detail is available in the Job Notebook. The user can see at a glance that the job is 7% finished and based on current production, the 37,000 parts will be finished almost 24 hours before needed.

Visual Scheduling Late Flags

Job Late Flags show if a job is scheduled to run early or late. Green is early. Yellow is on time. Red is late. Each Part # may have a different early/late barrier.

Visual Scheduling Family Molds

Family Molds allow multiple jobs to run together. Here the Cootie Bug Head Front and Back run together on the same station at the same time.

Visual Scheduling Setup Time

Setup and Tear Down Times may be displayed graphically. Here, a Family mold takes 2 hours of Setup and 1 hour of Tear Down time.

Visual Scheduling Calendar

Non Working Periods affect run times. Both jobs are identical. However the job on Press-40 takes less total run time because Press-50 is running a 7-16 schedule.

Visual Scheduling

Scheduling the VSB is simple. The scheduler makes changes to the current schedule using drag-and-drop. After the changes are complete the scheduler taps the schedule "gears" and the VSB takes over. A new schedule will be produced in seconds.

Visual Scheduling Rules

Scheduling Rules provide complete control of the shop floor. Rules may be applied by work station or by item. In this case Press-30 is Just In Time scheduled.

Visual Scheduling Freeze Lines

Freeze Lines (the red underbar) allow the scheduler to take complete control of the schedule for a defined time period. Cootie Bug Ears will be followed by Cootie Bug Legs on Press-30. After they are complete the scheduling rules take affect.

The Visual Scheduling Board quickly produces a Finite Schedule that you can see and understand.

The philosophy of the Visual Scheduling Board is to allow the scheduler to:

  • Visualize and understand the current schedule

  • Easily make any changes using drag-and-drop technology

  • Quickly reschedule

  • Visualize and understand the ramifications of the change

  • Repeat this cycle until a satisfactory schedule is obtained.

The reschedule process returns the schedule before the scheduler can lose the sense of purpose of the current objective. This speed allows the scheduler to maintain focus and complete the job.

Once you've used this new Visual Paradigm for creating a Master Production Schedule, you will never again be happy with Rule Based or Character Mode Scheduling.
